TURN Project Introduction booklet

This booklet introduces TURN by posing questions about the project’s aims, its distinctive qualities as an art project, and engagement with fields beyond art, bringing together slices of the scenery and moments in time that have emerged through TURN activities. It covers TURN’s concept with messages from the organizers, and introduces past locations, exchange partners, and the traditional techniques and practices used in TURN activities, and presents case studies with different perspectives and keywords.

TURN’s overseas activities were suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic, but relationships were cultivated through online discussions in which participants talked about their circumstances. In 2021, the TURN Tea Gathering was held at The National Art Center, Tokyo. Envisioning the tea room as a space for mutually sharing sentiments, eleven TURN artists created exhibitions based on their overseas experiences and held online talks with partner welfare facilities and overseas universities. English-language documentation is available on the website below.
