TURN is an art project designed to bring out each person’s individuality while confronting and reflecting on their differences and similarities, such as disability,
age, gender, nationality and living environment. Artists engage with local communities or welfare facilities to create moments of insight and understanding, fostering a society where people recognize and appreciate one another more. TURN addresses
locality-specific and broader societal issues by working with the community.
* We use TURN to evoke multiple meanings that include “revolving,” “returning,” “recurring,” “transforming,” and “pivoting.”
* TURN served as a leading cultural program for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games from 2015 through 2021. Tokyo University of the
Arts is building on those relationships and experiences to bring TURN into a new phase of development.
